Re: Possible move around the time of the Bond Scheme?
I worked with the LDDC back in the 80's and as the steam was running out on the docklands developments, they were trying to kick start the Royal Docks end, which was taking a long time to come to life.

We were offered the opportunity to move to the Gallions Reach end for a seriously low price, but never picked up the option, and the rest, as they say is history.

What's happened to the old bus garage, it's still there isn't it?

Planning permission to develop the East Stand was granted in 1999 so it must have been under consideration by T Brown around that time. The capacity would have been increased to over 40,000 under that scheme but as I remember, the closeness of the Upton Park bus garage was used as an excuse not to go ahead( along with T Brown's reluctance to spend any of his own fortune no doubt.) The Icelandics were also reluctant to consider that option I believe.
By the time the two Daves had taken over, the planning permission had expired and the bus garage was about to be closed. The timing of the Olympic stadium option was perfect for Sullivan and Gold.

The move was to be to Crown Wharf in Docklands and it was to be funded initially by Jack Petchey who was on the board at the time.

One of the options was moving to a couple of sites near Romford.

One was on the A127 between the Moby Dick and Mawney Rd, where they are building a golf course at the moment, on the left coming into London.

The other was the huge area near the rollerbowl, opposite where Hainualt golf course is.

Living in Collier Row I was well up for both.

I think the move to Beckton was first put to the fans about 1987. As mentioned below Gallions Reach was the site when it was a derelict gas works, and no redevelopment had happened on the site.

Also recall the talk of relocating to Essex in the early 2000's.

Funny enough I found the bond scheme prospectus in my parents loft the other week. Trevor Brooking and Geoff Hurst giving it their full backing!

Joe Royal,

We were offered the site where Tesco is and not Sainsbury's. There was going to be roads built joining on to the A406 and A13 etc. The price for the whole site was considered far too much by the club. The price was £1m!

1991/92 was a real miserable season on and off the pitch. My Grandad never went again after 60 years of going practically every week.

During the early nineties, the talk of relocation was off Manor Road by Canning Town, on the other side of the railway line.

Re: Possible move around the time of the Bond Scheme?
The Bond Scheme.....Unbelievable....Final nail in the coffin for my Dad. Sid Clear was a season ticket holder for donkeys years in the old West Stand.....would love to hear from anyone who knew him....his ticket was just behind the old press stand. He only ever attended a few times after this sad time in our History.....to have to pay for the right to buy a Season Ticket was novel....and very shit!! Will always miss watching the game with him at home....did try to get him to visit again in later years, but he became an armchair fan...he always complained about people standing up in front of him when he'd paid for a seat....so although I love him to bits...he was probably one of the few that wasn't happy with the Semi Final against Forest.....'Billly Bonds Claret and Blue Army' as it obscured his view.....probably a bit of tongue in cheek though!

Beckton, where sainsburys is , at the time transport links were considered not to be good enough.

Full metal jacket was filmed where tescos is on galleons reach.

I definately remmeber the questionare and remmeber thinking a long with everyone else that it was a mental suggestion, which it was.

If they'd have rebuilt the east side upton park would have a great ground

Re: Possible move around the time of the Bond Scheme?
I actually did some work for the proposed West Ham move to the ParcelForce site, so given that I worked at that place from 2006 to 2010 it wasn't the one you're thinking of. It was very much a go-er so in hindsight perhaps it was a blessing in disguise that the most rich owners we ever had went bust overnight!
